Over the weekend, tragic rumors circulated across the internet's multitude of social networking sites that Johnny Depp, 46, had been involved in a fatal car crash in France. 

Fortunately for Tim Burton and scores of adoring fans this has proven just another ephemeral wave in the ocean of frenzied online rumors.

Robin Baum, the actor's representative, informed anxiously waiting fans on Monday that Depp was alive and well. The rumors of his car crash were nothing more than an ill-humored hoax. In fact, this is not the first time news has spread of Depp's "untimely passing." In a previous incident, pranksters created a fake CNN website reporting the death of the actor. The site even included images of a car accident Depp was supposedly involved in.

Depp, alive and well, has two children with his partner Vanessa Paradis. The movie world expectantly looks forward to his roles in Tim Burton's reprisal of Alice in Wonderland and the rumored fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
